Snow on the Way?
The folks up in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and our other Northern neighbors may feel a little prosaic, if prosaic can be characterized as a feeling, but we are feeling the opposite of prosaic, we are experiencing the excitement and anticipation of a possible snow storm tomorrow, or at least in the near future. The Arctic blasts have chilled us from the North already, and have called the anti-freeze into action as we listen to radio weather forecasts via streams on the Internet. We are scurrying around trying to cover up the plants in a semi-annual exercise to preserve our greenery. It is theoretically possible, here in Central Texas to cover the tender plants with blankets and sheets, and if the temperature does not dip below say 25 degrees Fahrenheit, the plants can escape with minimal damage.
So, we have some flowering plants in the My-Lynx Associates yard, even some salad greens that we will be attempting to save from the deadly nip of Jack Frost. Of course we have to do this in between our regular duties, taking a break here and there to glance upwards from our books and computer screens as we think of which plants to cover, and which may not be vibrant or attractive enough to warrant protection, for not all plants can be saved. Here is a couple of shots of the early-blooming Christmas cactus on the left, and our fresh salad bar on the right.
