We're in the Money! (We thought.)

We had a little start when we found this in one of the books we picked up recently. It is part of the growing collection of items that we find in books, often used as a book mark. In this case our hearts started to beat a little faster when we saw the denomination: 100.

We mentally started making plans for a long trip. Since it was titled at the top "El Banco De Mexico S. A.", we saw the opportunity for a day-trip  from our world headquarters in Central Texas. Or who knows maybe longer trip till the funds ran out?

Maybe we could stock up on some collectible books in some Mexican border town, since we are but a day's drive from the Mexican border. But we remembered from times gone by that there have been some devaluations of the currency, so we checked the date on the 100 peso note. It was 1981, making it a fairly old note. Then we went to a currency converter, found something called the "Old Peso" and the "New Peso", which made our heart slow down a little. And it turns out that after a few tries that the currency converter for the "Old Peso" did not work.

Then we saw the little note that the "Old Peso" was obsolete. In 1981 the peso exchanged for 25 pesos to one dollar, so it was worth only $4.00 USD back then. So our heartbeat dropped back to a normal level, our shoulders slumped, our eyes became downcast, and our excitement passed away into admiration for the intricate artwork on the bill. As far as we can tell, the old Peso is 1/1000 of the new Peso. So theoretically the bill might be worth less than a mill, or more accurately a fraction of a mill, which some old timers may remember as 1/10 of a penny.

You never know what you are going to find. But we have to get back to work, at least until we find a bigger bill.

Kumar, I appreciate your visits, but I do monitor my postings for their content. Since this is already a commercial site (I sell books here), if you post multiple times to promote your own website, it sort of dilutes my efforts. However, you are more than welcome to purchase one of our items. We are set up on AbeBooks to ship internationally, so click on the links to the right.
