The Birdbath Froze
Tonight the weather report says the temperature will drop into the teens (that is Fahrenheit for you Metric measurement types). We here in Central Texas are scratching our heads about what to do. If it drops into the high twenties, that is considered to be a catastrophe. We worry about pipes.
There are outdoor pipes here without a shut-off valve, the usual technique for avoiding pipe burst is to cover them in a kind of large styrofoam cup with some foam lining around the edges to keep the cold out. But tonight we are biting our nails at the World Headquarters of My-Lynx Associates. They are saying that tonight, in the evening, the temperature has already dropped below the record, so we are thinking of something warm to drink. The weatherman is saying that the damage may not show up until later in the day, when the temperature may get above freezing and the water will then come spewing out. We can't wait. We'll try and get a photo of the birdbath tomorrow.
