What is a Vinegarroon? The Story of A Legendary Texan

Book sold on 01/17/10 - no longer available.

That would be the title of a book about the famous Texan judge Judge Roy Bean, that we sold a short while ago. It was used by Judge Bean as the name for his little tent city, when he looked down on the dry Texas soil and he saw one of the critters crawling by.

The book is a colorful tale told in stand-tall-in-your-boots prose about a rascal who made some history. Or the word vinegarroon (two letter "r"s and two letter "o"s) might also apply to a kind of scorpion-like arachnid that shoots a stream of strong acid that smells like vinegar because one of the components is acetic acid, the active ingredient in vinegar.

We used to have a book about Judge Bean, and you can see in the artwork from the cover which pictures a law book, a whip, a pistol and the slogan made famous on television and the movies as "The Law West of the Pecos". Vinegaroon was also a small settlement at the junction of the Rio Pecos and some railroad lines, and was later renamed by Judge Roy Bean to Langtry, as can be seen in this short segment on the left side of Texas in this brief video:
