We Saw the Statue of Liberty
Or at least we saw someone waving at us with a foam hand. Yesterday it was a young woman, dressed in a bronze green robe, a costume to make her look like Lady Liberty, advertising something for a car insurance office, trying to attract business probably. We drove by the same office today as a mist settled down from the sky and we saw the same green costume, except now attired in a pink rain poncho, with the green robe sticking out of the lower extremities of the poncho. And we looked more closely, and it was not a young lady, but rather a tall young man today, with a goatee, and looking to one side while talking to a nearby friend as he waved his foam rubber hand from the side of the road, while standing the the dripping dampness of a winter day.
And we suddenly realized that this was a travesty of liberty. But it certainly is not something we will soon forget. We are busy with listing books tonight, no time for a long blog, just a few words and a quote about opportunity.
Human felicity is produced not as much by great pieces of good fortune that seldom happen as by little advantages that occur every day. Benjamin Franklin
