We Have Our Own Gecko!

We don't have a big animation budget like the television insurance companies, but we do have a live gecko. We have had them come in the house once in a while in search for game here in Central Texas. The ones outside have a darker color, but the species is probably Hemidactylus frenatus, an introduced species from Southeast Asia that has established itself here. Presumably it jumped on a container ship with its sticky padded feet and hung on until the container arrived and was shipped through Texas. It has adapted fairly well to the hot, dry climate in Central Texas.

It does not speak with an English accent, nor does it stand on its hind legs as the ones on television do. It is more of a sedate gray color here, with some stripes along the sides. We may or may not consult with them about future marketing trends, since they periodically visit to catch bugs in the porch light by climbing the walls. They are somewhat nervous about showing themselves, because there small size makes them vulnerable to any bird larger than a sparrow.
