The Fossil Record - Sasquatch
We love to watch the shows about the unknown. The History Channel, The Discovery Channel and other cable outlets are always showing ghosts, "monsters", cryptozooids (creature of unknown origin jargon word). There is the crew from Rhode Island that chases after creatures in the night with lots of hi-tech equipment, the newest guy who searches murky rivers for monsters, and of course the 2012 shows which put forth the theory that the calendar has some click-over because of some theory that the Mayans did not provide for something after a date in December 2012.
The fact that all the Mayan’s day planners were all burned in the 1600s-1700 by zealous clergy as works of the infernal and that no one has been able to read the hieroglyphs for at least 300 years since, until the relatively recent pioneering research at the University of Texas, Austin, is no reason to let the truth get in the way of a good story. All that is left is a bunch of stone glyphs on temples and pottery vessels. But the History Channel has been running one special after another about the intersection of Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar stories. But that is not why we gathered our blog together today. We found a Bigfoot book. A supposedly scientific view of the semi-mythic creature, it does have a lot of data, diagrams, even an analysis of the famous Patterson film shot decades ago, which itself has become something of a myth itself, having been featured as a humorous aside on the X-Files.
We have recently acquired a copy of "Big Foot-Prints: A Scientific Inquiry Into the Reality of Sasquatch".
The author talks about the fossil records showing that a possible link to the past is the Australopithecus species might be an explanation. Of course how this human-like side branch got to the New World is something we will need to review in more detail. In checking the entry on the trusty on-line website the fossils all seem to come from the eastern edge down to the southern part of the African continent. If you like scientific inquiry when it is applied to fringe ideas, this is the book for your library. We even learned here about a State Fair in the late 60s where a frozen block of ice was displayed with the shadowy figure of a hairy humanoid shown inside. Big Bigfoot fans will remember that everything old is new again when a couple of guys were trying to auction off a frozen block with a humanoid-appearing creature back in 2008.
We listen to the Coast-toCoast AM show and we remember another Bigfoot search years ago when George Noory, the current host was still fresh on the job, and some people claimed on live radio to have access to a captured Bigfoot photo. The strange part was that the creature was said to be in Nevada. There are call-in guests from time to time who go on about Bigfoot, but we are waiting for the DNA before we make any conclusions.
