We Braved The Rain

As we mentioned yesterday, we hate going out in the rain for books. But today, the sun was shining, just a hint of clouds.

But this is Central Texas, we heard tell that the Rio Grande on the Southern Border is bursting its banks with the latest day's rain that spoiled a book buying trip we had planned yesterday, so we decided to make a run for it today.

After all, we thought we were too far north to worry about it. But Texas weather is notorious for its variability, and the distant clouds on the horizon became menacing gray strips of darkness, and peals of thunder rumbled closer by the minute. When we saw the leaves on the trees showing their undersides and the rustle of the tree branches we knew we were in for a blow.

We managed to get our first stack of books on our latest trip back into the car with no major trauma. Just a few drops on the windshield. But as we went back, greedy creatures that we are, we wanted a second look at the stacks of books as the darkening clouds finally burst over the carport / covered patio where we sheltered with the remaining books. We braved the lightning and thunder,  all in the search for knowledge and wisdom. We even carry a lamp like the philosophers of old, just in case we have to read an ISBN number or UPC bar code on the covers of our contemporary repositories of great thinking.

We managed to place a few more desirable tomes into our trusty plastic bags, and then we looked around for a while searching for other treasures, till the rain at last subsided.

We have returned to our My-Lynx Associates lair, safely shielded from the elements, as we review the triumphant prizes that we have rescued from certain oblivion. Who says the book business can be dull? Still another day of pulse-pounding excitement that we will share with the world shortly.
